Canadian Aerophilatelic Society Unveils a New Website for a New Era of Aerophilately

The Canadian Aerophilatelic Society (CAS) is pleased to announce the launch of its completely rebuilt website at aerophilately.ca — a modern, editorial home for one of Canada’s most active specialist societies and the country’s principal voice for the study of Canadian aerophilatelic heritage.

The new site replaces a long-serving legacy portal that had grown, page by page, over more than two decades. That earlier site had served the Society as a plain-text repository of PDFs, exhibit scans and mailing information, but its single-page, table-based layout, fixed desktop width and absence of any search, forms or mobile support had increasingly become a barrier for members, researchers and newcomers alike. The new site is a decisive step forward.

A modern, editorial look

New Homepage for the Canadian Aerophilatelic Society

Visitors arriving at the new CAS site will immediately notice the difference. A calm charcoal-and-ivory palette, elegant serif display headings, contemporary Sans body type and archival stamp imagery replace the previous fixed-width tables and pale blue textured background. The design is card-driven throughout: articles, exhibits, monographs, events and youth content are presented as image-led cards that can be sorted, filtered and searched. The site is fully responsive on phones and tablets, with a proper mobile menu, a global search control, a contact form and newsletter sign-up in the footer.

New functionality for members and researchers

The new site is built around the working needs of collectors, researchers and academics. Highlights include:

  1. A searchable, sortable index of The Canadian Aerophilatelist, with pagination, downloadable back-issue PDFs and expandable tables of contents for every issue.
  2. Dedicated, searchable hubs for CAS Articles, Books and Monographs, Exhibits and Presentations, each with keyword search and sort controls.
  3. A Research Tools section organized by reference works, pioneer and semi-official mail, international routes and rates, aviation background and ongoing journal research.
  4. Homepage theme shortcuts for Pioneer Flight, Semi-Official, Airship, Crash Covers, First Flights and Newfoundland material.
  5. A full online membership application, member benefit summary and fee comparison, replacing the former downloadable Word form.
  6. Structured pages for the Society’s history, mission, constitution and Executive Committee, and a proper Events area covering the Day of Aerophilately and partner events.

A Kids Zone

For the first time, the CAS site includes a dedicated Kids Zone with age-marked activities designed to introduce young collectors to Canadian aerophilately. Launch content includes a printable “Start Your Own Canadian Air Mail Stamp Collection” album covering the C1–C9 airmail stamps, a “Colour Me: London to London Flight” colouring page, and illustrated stories on the 1919 Transatlantic Air Race, the Dornier Do X inverted overprints, Sidney Cotton’s winter mail flights and the disappearance of the Sir John Carling. It is the Society’s first sustained effort to speak directly to the next generation of collectors.

Phase I — and what comes next

The launch marks Phase I of the CAS digital renewal. Subsequent phases will add a full members’ section, including a member directory, forum, gated access to current journal issues and member self-service, together with expanded research tools and rich data sources the Society has assembled over decades — journal runs, exhibits, monographs, image collections, and reference catalogues — including an AI-assisted research capability for members.
