The Air Mails of Canada and Newfoundland — Second Edition (AMCN2)

A Volume in the Seventh Edition of the American Air Mail Catalogue — Volume 4
Published jointly by the Canadian Aerophilatelic Society and the American Air Mail Society · Hardbound · 552 pages

The second edition of The Air Mails of Canada and Newfoundland is the standard reference work for Canadian and Newfoundland aerophilately, and the successor to the widely used first edition published in 1997. Produced as a joint project of the Canadian Aerophilatelic Society (CAS) and the American Air Mail Society (AAMS), AMCN2 forms Volume 4 of the AAMS’s Seventh Edition of the American Air Mail Catalogue.

Under coordinating editor Chris Hargreaves, the new edition delivers updated priced listings and revised catalogue numbers for the full sweep of Canadian and Newfoundland air mail:

  • Pioneer flight covers and SCADTA
  • Semi-official airmail stamps and covers, including the celebrated pioneer issues and CLP-series
  • Post Office (Government) flight covers, 1918 to the present
  • Airline, special-event, anniversary, and Canadian Forces covers
  • Airship, crash, balloon, and helicopter mail
  • Aerogrammes and air letter sheets
  • Newfoundland airmail stamps and flight covers, with priced listings
  • Canadian Air Mail Field cancels, airmail rates, endorsements, “Jusqu’à” markings, and astrophilately

Beyond the catalogue proper, AMCN2 adds new material on air mail rates, air letter forms, and pilot signatures, plus expanded historical context throughout. To keep the printed volume to a manageable size, some unchanged background material from the first edition has been omitted from AMCN2, and AMCN1 has been placed online at americanairmailsociety.org as a free companion resource for AMCN2 users.
