Terms of Use
Effective date: September 9, 2026
Welcome to the Canadian Aerophilatelic Society (“CAS,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) website at aerophilately.ca (the “Site”). By accessing or using the Site, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.
We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Site after changes are posted means you accept the updated Terms.
1. About the Site
The Site is operated by the Canadian Aerophilatelic Society, a volunteer, not-for-profit philatelic society. It provides information about the Society, its journal and library, events, exhibits, a Kids Zone, and other resources for members and the wider aerophilatelic community.
The Site is presently a mostly informational website with three online forms — membership application, contact, and newsletter signup. Member login, online payments, and visitor comments are not currently active; if they are added in future, these Terms will be updated before those features go live.
2. Permitted Use
You may browse the Site and use its public content for personal, non-commercial, educational, and research purposes. You agree not to:
- use the Site in any way that is unlawful, harmful, or disruptive;
- attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Site, member areas (once available), or related systems;
- copy, republish, resell, or redistribute Site content except as expressly permitted in these Terms; or
- use automated tools to harvest content, member information, or credentials.
3. Membership Applications and Contact Submissions
The Site includes a membership application form, a contact form, and a newsletter signup. When you submit any of these forms, you agree to:
- provide accurate information and keep it current;
- use the forms only for their intended purpose (applying for membership, contacting CAS, or subscribing to CAS updates) and not for spam, harassment, or unlawful communications; and
- notify us promptly at hargreavescp@sympatico.ca if you notice any error in the information you have submitted.
How CAS handles the personal information you submit through these forms is described in our Privacy Policy.
4. Member Accounts (coming soon)
Member login is not yet active on the Site. When member accounts and login are introduced, this section will be replaced with account terms covering registration, password responsibility, permitted use of members-only areas (such as journal archives, research databases, and any AI-assisted research tools), and account suspension. Until then, no accounts, passwords, or member logins exist on the Site.
5. Downloads: Journal, Library, Exhibits and Presentations
The Site may offer downloadable materials including issues of the CAS journal, library documents, member philatelic exhibits, and recorded or written presentations contributed by CAS members and other philatelists.
Unless a specific item states otherwise, these materials are provided for personal study, research, and non-commercial use only. You may not:
- repost, mirror, or redistribute downloaded files on other websites, mailing lists, or platforms;
- sell, sublicense, or include them in commercial products; or
- remove author credits, citations, or copyright notices.
Attribution. Where reuse is permitted — for example, brief quotations in your own research, articles, or exhibits under fair-dealing principles — please give proper credit to the Canadian Aerophilatelic Society and to the author(s) of the work, and cite the original publication (journal issue and page, or presentation title and date) where applicable.
Contributor consent and copyright. Presentations, exhibits, articles, and other contributed works are posted on the Site with the permission of their authors. Copyright in each contribution remains with its author or original rights holder; posting on the Site does not transfer copyright to CAS. Requests to reuse material beyond personal use should be directed to hargreavescp@sympatico.ca and we will forward the request to the appropriate contributor where needed. An author may ask CAS to remove or update their contribution at any time.
6. Kids Zone
The Site includes a Kids Zone aimed at young collectors aged approximately 10 and up. The Kids Zone is read-only: children can view and download articles, activity sheets, and other materials without creating an account or submitting personal information. If we later add any feature that lets a child submit content or send us personal information, we will require verifiable parental or guardian consent before that information is collected. See our Privacy Policy for details.
7. User Comments and Forum Posts (not currently enabled)
Visitor comments and forum posts are not enabled on the Site at this time. If comments, forums, or other user-posted content are turned on in future, this section will be updated with rules on acceptable content, a licence for CAS to display user submissions, and moderation practices, before those features go live.
8. Memberships and Payments
CAS offers digital and print memberships in The Canadian Aerophilatelic Society. Membership fees, terms, and any print-mailing surcharges are shown on the Membership page and may change from time to time.
The Site does not currently process online payments. When you submit a membership application, a CAS volunteer reviews it and contacts you with payment instructions (for example, by cheque or e-transfer). Your membership begins once payment has been received and processed.
If online payment or an online store is added in future, this section will be updated to cover pricing, refunds, and third-party payment processors before those features go live. Billing questions about a current or past membership can be sent to bjnepean@trytel.com.
9. Intellectual Property
The Site, its design, text, images, logos, and organized collections are owned by CAS or its contributors and are protected by Canadian and international copyright and trademark law. The CAS name and logo may not be used without our written permission.
Third-party materials (including scans of covers, stamps, and archival documents) are reproduced with permission or under fair-dealing principles for research and education. If you believe your material has been used in error, contact heycastel@gmail.com and we will review and, where appropriate, remove or correct the item.
10. Third-Party Links
The Site may link to auction houses, archives, philatelic societies, social-media services (such as Instagram), and other external resources. We provide these links for convenience only and do not control or endorse those sites. Your use of any linked site is at your own risk and subject to that site’s terms.
11. Disclaimers
The Site and its content are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. CAS is a volunteer society and, while we take reasonable care with the accuracy of research, articles, and listings, we do not warrant that Site content is complete, current, or error-free. Aerophilatelic research is an ongoing scholarly activity, and users should verify important facts against primary sources before relying on them.
12. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, CAS, its officers, directors, editors, and volunteers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of the Site or reliance on its content. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
13. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable there. The courts of Ontario have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Site.
